Goals and Dreams

The person who sets low goals achieves little.

The size of the dream will determine the size of the person you become.

As I look back and reflect over my coaching career. There is one thing that seems to stand out among all others that I have noticed with players...Goal Setting, both personally and athletically.

It's easy to talk about your dreams and goals, but to understand the dedication required to achieve them is another.

The best basketball players in the world spend hours upon hours in the gym working on their craft, strength training and becoming a student of the game.

To achieve any goal, you have to be able to answer these 3 questions.
  • What do you want? (play college?)
  • What will it take to get it? (time, effort, consistency)
  • Are you willing to pay the price for it? (sacrifices)

Example Goal Setting...
  • Maintain an "A" average
  • Lift weights 3 times a week
  • Earn a college scholarship
  • Play 4 hours a day
  • Be a great leader in all ways at all times
  • Develop a great shot fake
  • Never be around alcohol or drugs
  • Don't float on your jumper
  • Treat mom, dad and coaches with respect
  • Take the "clutch" shot and want the ball in tough situations
Make a goal sheet and remind yourself of your goals everyday.

There are no great people in this world; there are only ordinary people.

The only difference between great and ordinary is that some people set high goals, dream bigger dreams, and settle for nothing less than the best!
