MAYB Cedar Falls Totally Hoops Classic Tournament Wrap-Up
Congratulations Team Fury Red on your 2nd place championship finish in the 9th-10th grade division. Weekend record finishes at 4-2.
Team Fury Black falls short but battles tough in "down to the wire" contests all weekend long in 11th-12th grade division. Record finishes at 1-5.
Team Fury represented very well again this weekend. It didn't matter if it was in victory or defeat, we continued to set the standard for toughness all weekend. We received great reviews from our opponents. The best thing I heard was how they know its going to be a grind when they see us on the schedule. I don't know about you, but that put a smile on my face.

A humble farewell to our 2012 Seniors-to-be...Stephanie Cox, Danyele Strum, Liz Reuter and Emily Peters. It's been a wonderful experience coaching this group. I want to wish them well the rest of the Summer and can't wait to watch them lead theirs Teams this coming Winter.
Coach BK and I had a fantastic time this season and we're already looking forward to next year! It's guranteed to be another exciting year of fun and growth for our program!

It's only our 2nd season and we've already become a respected member of the AAU circuit around the Midwest. That's something to proud of and I couldn't be more proud of our players. The highs and lows each of them experienced this Summer will only prepare them for the future. I've always believed the more life experiences you can have outside your comfort zone will only make you tougher and wiser.

MAYB Iowa City Classic Tournament Wrap-Up
Congratulations Team Fury Red! for winning the 9th-10th grade Championship! Weekend record finishes at 5-0.
Team Fury Black places 6th in the 11th-12th grade division. Weekend record finishes at 2-3.
Team Fury Black...6 points. That was the combined point differential this weekend that had us playing for 5th place instead of playing for the Championship. This Team competes...period! My heart breaks and goes out to each of our players every time we come so so close. The number of ways we beat ourselves can be very frustrating. If we make a few more layups, grab a few more rebounds and reduce our turnovers how things might turnout. It's easy to play the "woulda shoulda coulda" game. I can tell you that this is a struggle for me at times as well..."should I have used this defense? should I have called this play? should I have had this line up? should I have called a timeout?". As I sit back and reflect after every tournament and play that game...I eventually reach the conclusion that there is so much as a Team we can still control. The little things that come back to haunt us are fixable...we have to realize this and go to work to correct them!

If you where to ask me who I would want in my fox hole...I would tell you our entire program. I love our kids, wouldn't trade any of them, and wouldn't go to war without them. The personalities and fight inside them make the growing pains we go through every bit worth while.
Let's take the fight to them one more time Team Fury! Make them remember!

Team Fury Red continues to show great toughness. I believe they have improved every time they touch the hardwood. It's been a real treat watching this group come together and to watch their Team chemistry grow. Do they playing a perfect game?...No. But they do what needs to been and when it needs to be done. Everything from making a clutch free-throw, securing a crucial rebound, controlling end of game possessions, generating a deflection or seeing the open floor in transition. Doing the little things very well, more often than not, typically leads to success.

AIA Midwest Girls Classic Tournament Wrap-Up
What did we learn this weekend?...We learned that being consistently successful will take time. There is no microwave success.
One thing I made aware to all of our players this weekend is that we are improving. The catch is that other teams are improving as well. I have no doubt that this Summer has been an eye opening and great learning experience for everyone. Competing against the best requires a relentless work ethic each and every day. Like I mentioned above, there is no microwave success. It takes time to reap a harvest.
Let's take care of business next weekend! Bring it on Team Fury!

Team Fury Red weekend record finishes at 1-3. We beat a very good Minnesota 36ers team and had a nail biter against a good All Iowa Attack team on Saturday afternoon. When we are physically tough with the ball, defend the boards, and reduce our turnovers we are a tough group to stop. We must have this mindset every game. I was pleased with our energy and effort on Saturday, but we have to learn to carry that same energy to Sunday. Our weekend goal every time we hit the hardwood should be to put ourselves into Championship position. It's a great honor to play on Sunday and it all starts with energy. Something we must strive for.
Team Fury Black weekend record finishes at 1-3. We came out of the gate Saturday morning on fire and beat a very good Wisconsin Hoops Select team. We shot the ball extremely well and made defensive stops when we needed them. Unfortunately, the hot shooting cooled off and the nasty turnover bug came back to bite us. Consistency continues to be our Achilles heel. We must continue to stress to our players the importance having patience on offense, defensive rebounding, and understanding the value of ball possession. I see lightening in a bottle with this team and if they continue to put in the work at the gym and getting stronger then it's only a matter of time before they break through.

Wisconsin Elite Shootout Tournament Wrap-Up
Congratulations Team Fury Red!!! Red takes 3rd in 15U division among 10 teams, weekend record finishes at 4-1.
Team Fury Black takes 7th in Open division among 12 teams, weekend record finishes at 2-3.
I’m very encouraged and pleased with the growth and progress our Red squad is achieving.
Team Fury Black has been riding a roller coaster so far this season. One thing I like about this group is that they always believe their going to Win the next one. "Almost" is not an acceptable result for this squad. That tells me this group will get to where I know they can be. We are starting to understand the level of detailed execution required to compete at this level against good talented teams. Priority (1a) on the offensive end must be to deliver a balanced inside-outside attack. Our tendency is to become 1-dimensional on the perimeter. We must enforce the value of getting “paint touches” on a more consistent basis. Priority (1b) is to reduce our turnovers and focus on making the simple play and executing the fundamentals of the game. Priority (1c) is to dig our heels in on defense and focus on generating defensive runs. Generating more of our offense from our defense will help open up a lot more opportunities.
Overall, I'm happy with our Team's progress and the great opportunities we had this past weekend. I'm already looking forward to the AIA Midwest Classic and taking that next step in our journey!

Team Fury Black takes 7th in Open division among 12 teams, weekend record finishes at 2-3.
Team Fury Red continues to show the mental toughness needed to generate their success. The ability to close out games by understanding time and score, value of possession, and the value of a free-throw goes a long way in ones basketball maturity and growth. I received several positive remarks this weekend about our Red squad. Comments were ranging from our sharp shooting perimeter, our relentless pressure in transition, and court awareness of each other. One thing I’ve noticed with this squad is their overall depth. We can have a new player step up each game that’s not afraid to make a play at either end. Priority (1a) is to continue to focus in on the details and keep raising the bar. Priority (1b) is to reduce our Team foul troubles! :)

USJN Great Plains Tournament Wrap-Up
Rough and Humble weekend! Team Fury Red takes 2nd place in pool, finishes weekend 2-2.
The Summer AAU circuit is a physically and mentally grueling adventure. That was proven to be true for our program this weekend. Team Black faced challenge after challenge and Team Red fought thru tough wins and tough losses. The common denominator for both Teams I thought was our Attitude. Our fight until the end Attitude was a constant throughout the weekend. That is something we can hang our hats on.
How we bounce back from this weekend will say alot. I'm already ready to get back into the gym and put the work in. Our plan will continue to break down the fundamentals and generate a very tough, competitive atmosphere.
One point of emphasis this weekend with our players was the importance of getting quality time in the weight room. It came to the forefront this weekend that strength is a vital part to success. Not only to compete, but to withstand the physical grind from game to game.
I have multiple strength training programs and I'm available to work with anybody interested in individual sessions moving forward.
Our next tournament is only 19 days away and we have to continue to practice and compete at a high level. No Team is going to lay down for us and we have to continue to bring a warriors mindset each and every day.
The Team Fury "Weekend Warrior" Award will be recognized after each tournament. A "Weekend Warrior" is somebody who displayed "Toughness" as defined by our Team Fury Philosophy during the tournament. This award is voted upon by the coaching staff.

Goals and Dreams
The person who sets low goals achieves little.
The size of the dream will determine the size of the person you become.
As I look back and reflect over my coaching career. There is one thing that seems to stand out among all others that I have noticed with players...Goal Setting, both personally and athletically.
It's easy to talk about your dreams and goals, but to understand the dedication required to achieve them is another.
The best basketball players in the world spend hours upon hours in the gym working on their craft, strength training and becoming a student of the game.
To achieve any goal, you have to be able to answer these 3 questions.
- What do you want? (play college?)
- What will it take to get it? (time, effort, consistency)
- Are you willing to pay the price for it? (sacrifices)
Example Goal Setting...
- Maintain an "A" average
- Lift weights 3 times a week
- Earn a college scholarship
- Play 4 hours a day
- Be a great leader in all ways at all times
- Develop a great shot fake
- Never be around alcohol or drugs
- Don't float on your jumper
- Treat mom, dad and coaches with respect
- Take the "clutch" shot and want the ball in tough situations
Make a goal sheet and remind yourself of your goals everyday.
There are no great people in this world; there are only ordinary people.
The only difference between great and ordinary is that some people set high goals, dream bigger dreams, and settle for nothing less than the best!

Iowa AAU State Tournament Wrap-up
Congratulations Team Fury Black for winning the 12th Grade Championship!
We had the tale of two different stories for the Team Fury program this weekend.
Team Defense still needs to be a point of emphasis for both Teams and will be a huge focal point during practices moving forward. This has to be a staple of our program.
The Team Fury "Weekend Warrior" Award will be recognized after each tournament. A "Weekend Warrior" is somebody who displayed "Toughness" as defined by our Team Fury Philosophy during the tournament. This award is voted upon by the coaching staff.

Fury Red = Heidi Hoeger

Team Fury Red played in a very competitive 10th grade bracket with stiff competition. After a very hotly contested and successful Saturday performance, they finished the day 1-1. On Sunday they faced a good athletic team in All Iowa Attack. The score may not have looked the greatest, but I believe Red came away with a measuring stick they can use to build from. I was very pleased with the heart and hustle they displayed despite the deficit. This will serve them well as we continue along our journey this Summer.
Team Fury Black had an easier time of it this weekend. We got off to some sluggish starts, but we were able to correct our energy and execution as the weekend wore on. I was very pleased with how they "played present" and mentally locked-in throughout the weekend. Our schedule allowed us to implement several new features offensively and defensively that will prove to be very useful down the road.

NAYS Dubuque 2011 Tournament Wrap-up
Team Fury defends Title!!! Takes 1st and 2nd place.
Congratulation ladies!!! Great job from both Teams this weekend. I was very pleased with the effort and competitive edge displayed on both sides. That competitive edge will serve us well as our journey continues this season.
It was good to see our Teams in a live game situation and to watch them respond. From a coaches perspective, it was great for us to see where we're currently at and where our focus needs to be moving forward. I think the ladies have done a great job up to this point of understanding the style of play and mindset we expect from them.
We'll continue to raise that competitive edge in practice everyday and drill the skills needed to be successful.
I'm looking forward to the Iowa AAU state tournament and taking our Teams to the next phase in our journey.
"Its better to look ahead and prepare, than to look back and regret."
